Brainstorming Rooms

Wujec talks about 3 parts of the brain and how we get meaning out of imagery, motion, etc. He talked about how the brain visually interrogates what it sees, develops a series of questions and then develops a mental model.

He listed 3 things to "Make Meaning":

  • Use Images to Clarify Ideas
  • Interact with Images to Create Engagement
  • Augment Memory with Persistent and Evolving Views

The thing that caught my eye was when he described how his company developes and formulates strategy via a room where they participate in a Visual Strategic Planning. The team uses one giant wall to draw out an entire strategic plan.  Everyone gets to see stuff that's outside of the scope of their job. He says "The act of collectively and collarboratively building the image transforms the collaboration. No powerpoint is used in 2 days, instead the entire team creates a shared mental model." This is definitely something interesting to think about.
